First Day of Fall 2009 - Autumnal Equinox 2009
Wikio
Tuesday, September 22, 2009
Tuesday, September 22 is the official First Day of Fall 2009 and the autumnal equinox. An equinox occurs twice a year, the vernal (spring) and the autumnal. This day is also called Mabon, Harvest Home, Winter Finding, or Second Harvest Festival.
The Autumnal Equinox is also a time of celebration, reflection, grace and balance. It is also believed to be a good time to gather our energies and turn our attention inward. The equinox is when night and day are of approximately equal length because the earth's axis is even with the Sun not tilted towards or away from it

An equinox comes for each year at two specific moments in time (rather than two whole days), when there is a location on the Earth's Equator where the centre of the Sun can be observed to be vertically overhead, occurring around March 20/21 and September 22/23 each year.
